The opportunity

About this role

Rooftop Chimney Sweeps – Henrico, VA
Starting Pay: $18.00–$22.00/hour | Full-Time | Year-Round Work

Start as an Assistant. Learn a Trade. Build a Six-Figure Career.

Are you good with your hands, dependable, and looking for more than just another hourly job?

Rooftop Chimney Sweeps is hiring a Technician Assistant to work alongside our experienced Lead Technicians while learning chimney, fireplace, masonry, and installation work in the field.

No chimney or fireplace experience is required. We will teach you.

Our goal is to develop successful Technician Assistants into Lead Technicians within approximately 6–12 months. Once you have the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform as a Lead Technician, six-figure annual earning potential is realistic for strong performers.

This is an opportunity to get paid while learning a specialized skilled trade and build a long-term career—not remain an assistant indefinitely.

For over 45 years, Rooftop Chimney Sweeps has helped Virginia homeowners keep their chimneys and fireplaces safe, functional, and beautiful. We're looking for someone who wants to work hard, learn a valuable trade, and build a career with us.

Your Career Path

You'll start as a Technician Assistant earning $18.00–$22.00/hour, working directly alongside experienced Lead Technicians.

During your first 6–12 months, you'll receive paid, hands-on training while developing the technical knowledge, craftsmanship, safety skills, and customer-service abilities required to advance.

You'll learn:

  • Chimney and fireplace repairs

  • Masonry and construction techniques

  • Fireplace and chimney system installations

  • Proper use of hand and power tools

  • Ladder, rooftop, and fall-protection safety

  • How to diagnose problems and determine repair solutions

  • How to protect customers' homes and maintain professional job sites

  • How to plan and complete jobs efficiently

  • Industry standards and best practices

  • How to eventually lead a crew and take ownership of a job from start to finish

Our goal: Technician Assistant → Lead Technician in approximately 6–12 months.

Advancement is based on successfully demonstrating the required skills, safety standards, reliability, workmanship, and ability to lead jobs independently.

For successful Lead Technicians, earning $100,000+ annually is a realistic opportunity.

What You'll Do

You'll begin by working alongside a Lead Technician and helping your crew complete jobs safely, efficiently, and to our quality standards.

Your day may include:

  • Assisting with chimney, fireplace, masonry, and installation projects

  • Setting up and breaking down job sites

  • Using hand tools and power tools

  • Working from ladders and on rooftops

  • Carrying and moving tools, materials, equipment, and parts

  • Protecting customers' homes and property

  • Keeping the truck, tools, and work areas clean and organized

  • Learning technical skills and taking on greater responsibility as you progress

  • Following company safety procedures and installation standards

This is a hands-on, physical position. You'll work indoors and outdoors, climb ladders, work at heights, lift materials, get dirty, and work in changing weather conditions.

Who We're Looking For

We're more interested in your attitude, work ethic, and ability to learn than whether you've ever worked on a chimney.

You'll be a strong candidate if you:

  • Enjoy working with your hands

  • Want to learn a skilled trade and build a career

  • Take pride in doing things correctly

  • Show up reliably and on time

  • Can follow instructions and established processes

  • Are coachable and willing to learn

  • Pay attention to details

  • Work well as part of a crew

  • Can solve problems without cutting corners

  • Want your earning potential to grow as your skills and responsibilities grow

Experience in construction, carpentry, masonry, roofing, HVAC, remodeling, maintenance, installation, or another hands-on trade is a plus, but it is not required.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license

  • Insurable driving record

  • Maintain required personal auto insurance

  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding work

  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working on rooftops and at heights

  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors throughout the year

  • Ability to commute to Henrico, VA 23231

  • English proficiency sufficient to safely understand training, instructions, and job-site communication

What We Offer

  • $18.00–$22.00/hour starting pay

  • Paid on-the-job training

  • Goal of advancement to Lead Technician within approximately 6–12 months

  • Realistic $100,000+ earning potential for successful Lead Technicians

  • Full-time, year-round work

  • Industry certification opportunities

  • Health insurance

  • Dental insurance

  • Vision insurance

  • Life insurance

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Paid time off

  • Paid holidays

  • Company-provided tools
